The other day I was channel surfing and I made an amazing discovery. I get over 100 channels! This was amazing to me because I usually never go beyond channel 74 which is the E! network. I’ve had the same cable service for a few years now, but I never knew there was life past channel 74. Once I realized that I started wondering if there was more about my cable service that I didn’t know about. Sure enough, it turns out I have an “On Demand” feature that allows me to watch certain shows whenever I want. I can also listen to a couple dozen music channels for free.

A few days have past since I made this discovery and yet I still find myself stopping at Channel 74. I’m just not interested in that other stuff. In fact, I realized I don’t watch cable that much at all. If you’re like me, maybe you are paying for services you really don’t use. Here are some tips for cutting your cable bill:
- Review your service. What are you paying for? Do you use it? Make sure it’s really worth the money.
- Stop paying for movie channels. You may be able to get a better deal through a DVD service like Blockbuster On Demand or Netflix. Plus you’ll get to pick the movies you want to watch. Better yet, check out your local library. They have a large collection of DVD’s you can check out for free.
- Threaten to drop your cable provider. Just the mention of leaving will have them offering to lower your bill.
- Try hooking your computer up to your TV. We recently figured out how to hook our laptop up to our television. For about $50 worth of cables we can now watch television shows and movies that are free on the Internet. This may just be enough for me to cancel my cable all together.
